Background Info

This is a company specilizes in making blinds. They showed us an MDF case, and was hoping to get CNC-cut ZM foam insert.

Challenges

Replacable photoprint inside cover lid. A slightly rigid insert is required to hold flat cardboard with ringbinder and wooden blind samples. The case should close using magnetic fasteners. The depth of the insert slots varies.

Solutions

We wanted to make sure that our photoprints were easy to swap out, so we decided to use Velcro. By sticking Velcro to the back of the photoprints with industrial-strength adhesive, we made sure that the photos would stay put, but could also be changed without any hassle.
Instead of multiple layers, which can result in visible seams, we use CNC router carving to create an ZM insert, ensuring a seamless one-piece design and accomodating the varying slot depth.
The magnets are embedded inside the fabric lining.
